Paris is always a good idea.

Paris; the city of love, the place where drinking wine before midday is fabulous rather than frowned upon and one of the most beautiful cities I have had the joy of visiting.

When looking back over 2012, my visit to Paris is the things that stands out the most in my head, so today I’m going to indulge myself by looking back over the best bits from best four days of the last year…

Our Hotel

You know at a house party when everyone is stood in the kitchen drinking, dancing and generally having a ball… then there’s that one person sat under the stairs making friends with the resident animal? Yeah, that person is me. So you can imagine my utter delight at the fact my boyfriends booked us into Hotel Vivienne based purely on the fact that he’d read some reviews that said there was a local cat that acted like it owned the place.

I’m not generally one to rant and rave about hotels on this blog, but the Hotel Vivienne was brilliant. Besides the obvious bonus of a furry friend to greet you at the door is was reasonably priced, had excellent service, was less than a minute’s walk from a Metro station and next door to an adorable (and stupidly cheap) steam-train themed Italian… what more could you want? (That said, there are hundreds of amazing hotels in the city of love, so if you’re planning a trip find Paris hotels here.)

A Champagne Cruise

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; the Champagne Cruise down the River Seine was one of the most fabulous, relaxing and beautiful things I have ever done. Seriously, it was fucking wonderful… I suggest you book one and get a flight over immediately.

Visiting Disneyland

As a shameless Disney blogger, you would have thought visiting Disneyland during the 20th anniversary celebrations would be top of my list. But honestly, I didn’t want to go. Having visited the Orlando resort three times, I thought Paris would be a pathetic imitation and generally shit. Well, I couldn’t have been more wrong. Of course, it was no Disneyworld Florida, but it’s well worth a visit.

Exploring the city

We got lost… a lot. Then argued about getting lost… a lot. But, as far as I’m concerned, that’s all part and parcel of exploring a new city…right? The good thing is, whether you’re lost or not, in Paris there’s beautiful architecture and a jug of wine around every corner, so you’re never too far from something fabulous!

The Moulin Rouge

Ahhh the Moulin Rouge; I might not have seen Nicole Kidman swinging from her suspenders from the ceiling… but I did discover that small boobs are sexy too, and that not even a French accent can make Abba’s Dancing Queen sound sexy. Check out what else the Moulin Rouge taught me.

Notre Dame Cathedral

Ok, I’m going to lay it down for you… for me, the Louvre sucked. Bigtime. Not because I don’t like a bit of culture, but because – by the time I had waded through the hoards of Japanese Tourists to be completely underwhelmed by the Mona Lisa, (which I still believe to be a painting of a man) – I was so hot and bothered I could barely be arsed to walk back down the corridor. For me, history isn’t about viewing things in glass cases, it’s about being able to feel it around you; to walk the path of generations before us and literally reach out and touch the walls. That’s why I loved Notre Dame so much!  Granted The Boyfriend wouldn’t let me scream “Sanctuaryyy” on entry, or put my bag under my coat on my back, and “hunchback” along the top to create a bit of ambience… but it was wonderful none the less.

Also, I discovered that there are eight things you can’t take into the Cathedral – three of which are hats.

The Food

What can I say? I put on at least half a stone in the four days I was in Paris, and I wasn’t even sorry.

The Wine

By far the most fabulous bit of Paris; whether it was with brunch, as a cheeky refresher mid-way through the day or whilst we were floating down the River Seine… wine was a huge part of our trip to Paris. What more could a girl want?

Glad you enjoyed your visit in Paris. There is much to attract us and entertain us… but we have to watch out for things that are too popular. You have some beautiful pictures here, and it is a pleasure seeing you enjoy yourself.
