Three Things You Probably Don’t Know About Paris…

Last month The Boyfriend and I headed to Paris for four days of eating carbs smothered in nutella and drinking jugs of wine before 11am.

 It was wonderful.

As usual I have a million and one stories, with absolutely no idea where to start. So in the interest of jumping right in at the deep end, let me share a few observations that no-one has ever told you about Paris…

  • L’Arc de Triomphe is surprisingly hard to find…

You *could* put this down to the fact that we were using a map that we got free from the hotel lobby… but I personally think it’s because every archway you pass  looks elaborate and “triumphant” enough to be the real thing.

After a minor altercation in which I was nearly run over whilst posing outside a archway in the middle of (what seemed to be) a dual carriageway… we came to the conclusion that the real L’Arc De Triomphe was the magnificent creation that stood opposite the Louvre.

A decision we were happy with, until 3 days (and an embarrassing amount of photos) later,  The Boyfriend caught sight of something…

With his exclamation of “Erm… What the hell is that?” we realised we had accidentally stumbled across the real thing…

  •  There are seven things you’re not allowed to take in to Notre Dame Cathedrale… three of which are hats.

With such a precise list as this one, you can’t help but wonder why “bomb” ,“gas lighter” or “canister of rohypnol” aren’t included…

  •  And finally… This shop exists.

No, your eyes aren’t deceiving you, that is a shop dedicated to Michael Jackson paraphernalia… alone.

Now I’m not one to judge, but seriously? I’m sure this would be an amazing online business venture, (no, it doesn’t have a website… yes, I looked…) but how many people are going to be wandering the streets of Paris when they suddenly think, “Oh shit I forgot I needed a rhinestone encrusted glove, I best pop in”. Please owners, if you’re reading this, set up a website – you’ll reap the rewards in the long-run!

Also – not to be picky or anything – but I can’t help notice not one, but two glittery gold hats in that window. Having scoured the internet (yes, I did that too) I can categorically say that there are no pictures of the King of Pop himself wearing a glittery gold trilby.

In fact, as far as I could find, there are no photos of anyone famous wearing a glittery gold trilby…

…except this guy:

…and, quite honestly, I’d say that was really more of a top hat.

LOL you guys couldn’t find L’Arc de Triomphe… That’s amazing! And terrifying? Am I going to get lost in Paris when I go? I’m totally going to need your expertise when I get over to your side of the country :)

I have to say I’m in love with that King of Pop store, but you are dead on about it being more ideal online. Wonder how much they make? When they opened? Right after he died? When I was in Paris, I had similar thoughts about a store called Hot Chicken that only sold chicken themed things. No– it was NOT a restaurant!

Hahahaha that post makes me laugh. The Arch was extremely hard to find! I too posed underneath the one outside of the Louvre thinking it was the real thing haha

I had to laugh about the three different types of hats! As if one wouldn’t be enought for you to realize that you shouldn’t be wearing a hat. Funny:)

Oh how I love Paris. I’ve never been, but the photos leave me fneileg all sorts of giddy. Glad you were able to get away and enjoy some quality time with your husband. Welcome back to the real world! :)

First point sounds like me and my boyfriend when we were in Pisa and were very unsure whether that really was the Leaning Tower of Pisa. It’s so small! We were paranoid we were taking pictures of the wrong thing. Turns out it is actually just a lot smaller than we thought…
